McLaren MCL34

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Looks different to me...
What is different about it, though?

Isn't that just the AOA setting being different?

Oh wait, there is a contour change to the top element and the metal part is different too.

Some real nice pics.

Seems as though they're happy with their FW(Minor tweaks at best). The number of updates in the mid-wing area shows were they are lacking, where they think they can find the most (efficient) DF and how much more work is needed there.

Good stuff, I wasn't expecting this big an update.

This is usual pre 2018 Mclaren development rate.
I guess last year Honda debt was being payed off.

The updates didn't work so they stopped bringing em.

The boomerang is thinner to match the area that has been cut out in the floor... Wondering which drove the change, a change to the floor or a change to the boomerang.

Disappointed that they are still using the same rear wing as in Melbourne... Got excited waiting for a new one!

The cars looked good in FP1, although none of the times are really representative.

Same, although I was a race out with the boomerang and bb upgrades, so maybe next time out?

I’m hoping that would be the case!

At least they are showing development and upgrades “faster” than in previous seasons (or is it that they are more visible)... Hoping that the data keeps correlating.

I have to admit that Sainz comments yesterday weren’t very encouraging... According to him, the team is at least 0,5 seconds from Haas... That means that they need to find at least 0.8 seconds to 1 second in development this year to match them (considering that Haas will also develop their car).

That’s a huge amount of time to gain only from an aero/chassis perspective in within the season.

I wonder how the 0.5sec deficit is distributed between the Power Unit and chassis, could the bigger deficit be in the PU?
Q: (Stefano Mancini – La Stampa) Kimi, will you help Vettel to win his championship this year?
Kimi Raikkonen: I can only drive one car, obviously.
