PU mapping can help but it's tricky and that's just covering the fundamental problem of mechanical grip. So I've heard in the past that the KERS (MGU-K) system is used during starts to prevent too much wheel spin. The ERS system is largely useless on starts because the torque it delivers would automatically overpower the grip of the tires but it can be used as a sudo traction control system to apply the brakes via the energy recovery system to prevent tire spin I believe.
