S3 is more about mechanical grip than downforce, sure downforce helps but mechanical grip is the dominant factor. McLaren just don't look quick in S3 and it was the case in preseason testing as well when they didn't have these aero upgrades. Doesn't bode well for Monaco I must say but I hope I'm wrong.mclaren111 wrote: ↑11 May 2019, 11:50Xero wrote: ↑11 May 2019, 11:47Rear downforce isn't an issue, it's front the car is missing.mclaren111 wrote: ↑11 May 2019, 10:43Why don't we have a T-Wing ?? Even in S3 in Barcelona ??
You can't just add rear downforce if you can't add front downforce (and our limitation now is front DF).mclaren111 wrote: ↑11 May 2019, 11:50Xero wrote: ↑11 May 2019, 11:47Rear downforce isn't an issue, it's front the car is missing.mclaren111 wrote: ↑11 May 2019, 10:43Why don't we have a T-Wing ?? I agree. One thing to remember though is the that the mechanical setup must also work at high and mid speed where downforce is important. If the car is front limited it would mean compromises must be made to stabilize the aero platform and prevent the tyres getting wrecked through understeer, probably a stiffening of some front springs like the ARB. For slow corners like in S3 a softer ARB would help rotate the car much better, but they've compromised in favour of the high speed which is key overall in Barcelona. For Monaco there's no high speed downforce needed, it's all about traction, so they can adjust the car much like they did in Bahrain and Baku where they fared pretty well.Dipesh1995 wrote: ↑11 May 2019, 11:55S3 is more about mechanical grip than downforce, sure downforce helps but mechanical grip is the dominant factor. True, I guess we’ll find out in Monaco whether the car lacking mechanical grip or whether their poor performance in S3 here is a direct consequence of being front-limited.Xero wrote: ↑11 May 2019, 12:26I agree. If they want to find more front DF, why would they design a new aggressive inboard loaded shallow front wing, instead of a building a new conventional Mercedes or Red Bull or Renault style front wing?Xero wrote: ↑11 May 2019, 11:47Rear downforce isn't an issue, it's front the car is missing.mclaren111 wrote: ↑11 May 2019, 10:43Why don't we have a T-Wing ?? It's all about managing the tyre wake first, which seriously bit McLaren in the butt last year. They'll add downforce only when that isn't affected.JordanMugen wrote: ↑11 May 2019, 21:45If they want to find more front DF, why would they design a new aggressive inboard loaded shallow front wing, instead of a building a new conventional Mercedes or Red Bull or Renault style front wing?
It seems to me that McLaren are sticking with low drag / low downforce concept and have no real desire to add lots of front downforce.
They're running more rear wing. Obviously they have more FW DF to balance it out.f1rules wrote: ↑11 May 2019, 22:22almost same angle
