AMuS stated that the white isn‘t paint on the merc because the car is directly taken to hungary after the german gp. So they just strip the white off and the car has its normal color sfterwards. No need to ship it to the factory.

Regarding the full rebuild: even the german dtm does it. The teams strip the full car back to the bare monocoque after every race.

the cars are stripped to bare carbon after every race and repainted anyway so painting it a different colour scheme wouldn't be too much extra work.

Interesting, have a source for that?

There is a video on YouTube feauturing a Sky reporter being present in Mclaren and shown the whole process in 2012 if im not mistaken.

The cars are painted as much as they can, logo’s included. This has been on different YouTube “behind the scenes” at both McLaren and Mercedes. Only the tiny logos are from very thin transfers.

Not only are the cars painted between races (there was an interesting piece in a pre show few years back when Renault showed up to a race with a in-repainted chassis after back to back fly away races). And it’s not only for looking good reasons, the suspension mountings have to be checked and re-done after a few races as well. They need constant care.

It's good that Mercedes are highlighting their long history in F1 and motorsport. sometimes you get the impression Ferrari must be the only team with credentials! But Renault and Honda go way back as well.
