Engine chief Andy Cowell, talks Mercedes power units, and how it is becoming ever more challenging to find further gains, now that we're up for the 6th season with power unit regulations.

Told you guys in P3 an yesterday: Merc is on top. Everyone speaking doom after yesterday and this morning: next time remember this
You said they will be a second ahead of everyone. Meanwhile even Sauber is within 7 tenths.
On Friday, in the 39 degrees heat we now know hurts Merc, they were 7 tenths ahead on the mediums and their medium times were also faster than a short stint of Verstappen on the softs. This is dominating pace. So yes a second ahead is reasonable to expect give or take 1 tenth.

True GOATs don’t need the help of superior material to win.
What do I see here? Ferrari fastest on Softs and Hards. Down on a second on Mediums but Vettel did only 4 laps and was also quite slow compared to Kimi and Ricciardo. Not really comparable therefor. As Ferrari is out for the race tomorrow I think Merc and RB (Max) will be closely matched in terms of race pace, slight advantage for Merc as they seem to have higher engine modes available in the race for longer periods of time.

Crucial is the Merc on mediums bekng faster than softs, so it is then only about mediums vs hards. And the one fast on hards is gonna start on the back.

I wonder, if you’ve taken into account that, on the other hand, cold weather/track hurts/has been hurting other teams (e.g. Ferrari)?
You sound like everyone switches the tires and cars on in both conditions, but it’s only Mercedes not showing pace when it’s hot.

Exactly, so if Merc managed the posted racepace already in 39 degrees, imagine how much further ahead they are tomorrow when it is much cooler and perhaps even wet

Did you pay attention to my whole post?
What do you mean? There has not been cold weather this weekend so far.

Yeah, I was surprised how warm qualifying ended up being.
