McLaren MCL34

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Why would the go with even higher mounting point? Any knowledge on this?
Could be for more KPI to make the new pushrod system more effective, could simply be there's an aero advantage there that wasn't an option previously until they modified the pushrods because it compromised too much mechanically, etc. You won't really know for sure without chatting to the team or spotting complimentary updates.

Perhaps these are generators of a useful vortex. Well, or absolutely nonsense, this device serves as a heat accumulator from tires and brakes. :wtf:
Probably neither. But just maybe the latter by stiffening it up and increasing surface contact somehow.
From this image ...it clearly looks higher...

Unless it's a trick of the light, this photo appears to show a load-bearing mounting arm sheathed within the wishbone. I'd imagine that when under heavy load the mounting point will shorten and slide back into the wishbone rather than the previous setup where the mounting point was fixed atop the attachment point. Would a system such as this be legal (movable devices etc.)?

Do we still have max camber directives? I would expect a system like that would increase negative camber during turns...

Yes, Pirelli sets static camber limits for each race. For Belgium it is -2.75 degrees for the fronts and -1.50 for the rears.

Minimum static tyre pressures for Belgium are 1.656 bar (24 psi) for the fronts and 1.38 bar (20 psi) for the rears.

McLaren (and Renault) have gone back to the B spec PU for the rest of the weekend according to Chandhok.

I just saw that, Sky said it doesn't appear it's ready to race, whatever that means.

They're just taking the engine penalty ready for Monza, same as Ferrari.

New front upright might be for structural improvement. Larger, not necessarily heavier, for bending resistance. The material choice for the cover is interesting. Polished metal? I would have expected a CF part.

Steering arms are either side of the rack.
