Sure, he had new tires while the others did a couple of quick laps before starting their long run, but that gap is still way too big for genuine pace.
Again you're presuming they're all driving as fast as they can as opposed to going to a predetermined rate. I think that was going on. They're all driving at a pace they think they can sustain based on tire temp/tire consumption.
yes, sure, all we can do from the couch is making assumptions, based on watching experience. And seeing the times Norris set, my assumption is that (given the minimal amount of time left in the session) McLaren decided to do a 2nd stint race simulation at a mid-fuel load.
If you prefer to believe that the McLaren is quicker in the longrun than Mercedes and Ferrari instead, you're free to do so, of course.
