Toyoharu Tanabe (Honda F1 Technical Director): "Today's race was difficult for us, with some unfortunate incidents. Gasly started from the back of the grid as planned with penalties for taking our Spec 4 PU. He moved up a few places, but then after he was pushed off the track by Stroll, he dropped back down the order and finished just outside the points. As for Kvyat, he had to retire the car at the side of the track and currently, along with the Toro Rosso engineers, we are investigating the exact nature and location of the oil leak. We still acquired plenty of data from running all four cars with our Spec 4 PU, which will be useful as we prepare for Singapore."

Kvyat again: definitely p6 was possible , i had fresher tyres than Albon so iam confident i would be able to keep him behind. :D with posting same lap times like Albon (which is not true Albon was regularly .5 faster)
he won't let that go without a fight.. understandably though.

okey thats even impressive from Kvyat or not so good from Albon .. but after reconsider the matter i think if Albon up his game even a little bit he will keep the seat for the Thailandish ownership part of RedBull.

It's his first year on F1, and we are comparing him to a good and experienced driver. Albon will grow up faster. Even Leclerc strugled on his first year with Sauber, and Albon is adapting good. His 12th race on F1, and 2nd with RBR and was making good moves which I think Gasly is unable to do right now. So give him time, he's a rookie on F1, and more with the RB15

Kvyat was only few second ahead of Gasly at one stage so its not like Kvyat was flying. He got outperformed in quali by Gasly. I was thinking he would do a Max on Gasly because Gasman has to adapt to the car and does not know its strength and weakness. If he does not beat Gasly then he has same chance as Gasly which is zero. The main thing Gasly struggled with RedBull was overtaking, he could not pull the moves that Albon and previously Riccardo did under braking which is the strength of RedBull.

Just when you think they have turned the corner. 2 weeks to inspect the engine and on first run same issue as last time. Very frsutating.

Last time wasn't an issue with the engine.

It seems an installation problem. The leak was "small", but better to put the Spec 3 and take no risks. At Singapore it won't be a big difference

Tanabe
Kvyat was unlucky today, as his car had an oil leak caused by an issue between the chassis and PU side at the start of FP3. The best option was to change the PU, allowing Daniil to start Q1 as normal. Tomorrow, as always on a street circuit, anything can happen, so we will prepare as well as possible for any eventuality.”
This is a shame. In the last race, due to an oil leak (now it’s clear that due to the chassis), Kvyat and the team lost an excellent result. Now again, after Friday, the chassis was poorly assembled (probably after replacing the Friday motor).
Maybe it would be better for him to put a new motor, so as not to receive a fine in the future?

I think they will add a new Spec 4 to the pool. Well, at least is what I would do giving that he starts on the back anyway
