Gardening as far as I know has never been involved with a driver, and solely with key personel from teams.
So that would imply somebody in a 'important function'.
That leaves some options open.
Regarding the repetitive 'talk' surrounding Wolff, i think that if there is anybody going on 'gardening' that then would be Wolff before filling in another function. But what?
He could go on gardening untill mid 2021 or even end 2021 to go to possibly Aston Martin for a 2022 stint.
However, that is based upon the fact that he aquired a stake, but that doesn't equal he's gonna run things there to be honest and quite frankly, why would he repeat what he accomplished with Mercedes recently? Sure, AM might slam a good buck on the table and they might be very serious about their intentions but i still wonder.
I RATHER wanted to think that, which has been mentioned before too, is to take the mantle from Jean Todt to become FIA president. Quite frankly i think he'd be a good fit, BUT i wonder whether it's really possible and whether he'd get accepted as such. There would be quite a margin bigger of concern regarding 'influence' for a 'Mercedes guy' filling the position compared to Todt who has quite some time passing since he was at Ferrari. So i'm really doubtfull that 'half a year' of gardening leave would be sufficient to fill the FIA precidency which has to be filled in 2021.
Neither would either really sound like a 'bombshell' honestly, as this has been discussed quite a lot.
what would be much BIGGER a bombshell.....in fact, almost like a hydrogen bomb,
would be if Toto would announce his resignation from Mercedes to go to FERRARI.
THAT would be a definate bombshell. AND Binotto's position is quite up for grabs right now.
It has been mentioned before too, that we could see a 'Brawn-Schumi' like scenario of Wolff and Hamilton to go to Ferrari. BUT, that would not fit with the contracts that LeClerc and Sainz have, and I really don't think Wolff would fit.
The only BOMBSHELL i could imagine being left would be if Wolff would go on gardening to join RENAULT with Alonso.
He has history with Ocon, and Alonso is offcourse a great driver, and it would be a very interesting move, and to be honest, would reason with Alonso's signing as i'm surprised Fernando signed whilst Abiteboul is there.
Raikkonen back to Ferrari, Vettel on 'gardening', sitting out 2020, and Mick Schumacher or Kubica taking Raikkonen's seat?
It's all speculation here though, but what bombshell could be out there regarding 'gardening' ?
The only 'big' news regarding ANY gardening i could come up with non-driver related would then be Newey going to Aston Martin which makes a lot of sense too, honestly.
Quite frankly, that would fit with Newey taking 'leave' for sufficient time to work on a 2022 car for Aston Martin.
Meanwhile, Aston Martin has 'Toto's' 2019 Mercedes to keep untill the end of 2021.
I AM very surprised about the intensity of the 'silly season' that is going on now.
