I disagree that a 1 stop isn’t the best strategy... Last week, both Mercedes and Perez went for the one stop strategy and they had enough tire left... And that’s considering that the first stop came a few laps earlier than expected due to the first safety car... The reason Perez struggled at the end is because Mclaren made a better strategy call and pit for a second time under the SC and were in new Mediums versus Perez’ tired ones... Similar with Albon who came with new Softs against used Hards on the Mercedes...the EDGE wrote:Carlos needs a good start to get some space between him and the chasing midfield, but he would be crazy to fight RB & Merc after that, it’s not his battle. Unless reliability comes into play 5th is going to be the limit
I don’t think for 1 minute Max would try anything aggressive Or clumsy on him, he knows he needs to finish this race and he has a chance of winning, albeit slim. He will have his head on the long game, he showed that last year already
Lando needs to watch out for Seb who unlike Max, will go in hard. He has upped his starts towards the end of last year now his building confidence, so he may be able to challenge Ric & Gasley at the start and get P7. Them he needs to settle in and bide his time to pass Ocon. I think because of the he will start on the soft or he will be a sitting duck
Strategy will be interesting, the race seems to favour 2 stops. Those on a 1 stop struggled to make them last, last week, even with 2 SC periods. Last year Max won with a 2 stop too, but with cooler temps & new tyres to start the race perhaps 1 stop might be doable
Without the Second Safety car, there wasn’t enough pace difference between the used tires and new ones to circumvent a 20+ second gap (pit time).
