Most likely being too harsh on the kerbs and punishing the suspension in high-speed sections while the car is loaded in a turn

Thanks for the info. Looks like that may have been a separate little issue for both of the drivers.

Per AMuS, Hamilton himself, and other sources, Merc found mechanical issue with HAM's car overnight and they rectified it today prior to quali. They just opted not to give away the details.

Brake magic isn't anything near as glamorous as it sounds. It's like a default setting for brake balance. Reduces driver workload through the lap to go to a preset brake balance for certain sections of track

Guess the driver would just have to drag the brakes to build up brake and tire temps then.

doubt it was the gearbox that was an issue with the austrian grand prix curbs, was always the suspension. theyve got a reversed torque arm that is mounted to the rear crash structure and maybe it is this area that they want to conserve. got strong suspicions they are being very clever with that, w11, rear suspension in regards to running a long wheelbase chassis that is more prone to understeer in slower corners..last season, those curbs did not get the team to send warnings to the drivers

Looking at that they seem to be able to create massive amounts of outwash, something thought to have been impossible with these post -2019 front wings. This then enables them to very effectively seal not just the immediate area around the back but a whole area around it, creating massive rear downforce like if they were driving with small skirts. You can also see there is very little air going from the rear wheels under the diffuser. It is going straight back. It is also a heads up on 2021: they apparently don't need the floor edges to effectively seal because of the big outwash. For 2021 this means they will not lose as much downforce as competitors that do not have this outwash and rely on the floor edges (that are going to get cut big time) to do the sealing. Basically this car is 2021 proof. Very impressive engineering and points to why this car is so good in all conditions.
