To be fair, i think Albon did a pretty decent job last race, but well, yeah, Styrian GP wasn't really his cup of tea, which is disappointing since it was the same track. That said, Albon might just not have been accostumed to rain and changing weather enough and where Max excelled, Lex fell through. It's gonna be down to the next GP, preferably in the try then, to see where things will go.
If Lex is up there in Hungary and the subsequent GP, he's gonna make it hard for the higher ups to decide on what to do. Unfortunately the problem for Albon is that to be honest, even at his very best, he's still not on Max' level. Let's just put it like this: where Max is definately a P1 driver in a RedBull, i'm afraid that no matter the circumstances, Albon is a P3 driver, and the only way he's ever gonna make a P1 is lucking out.
If you look into Vettel though, he is a proven winner, and even when things are down he can manage to make it. Yes, he's been having quite the crashes in the recent past which don't really paint things well, but underneath it all, we're still dealing with a blazingly fast 4 time WDC that in his Ferrari time also wheeled in many wins and was a title contender.
If we look at the fact that Albon has made multiple contacts too, then if a higher up would need to decide:
"okay, let's say that both Lex and Seb are similar in their 'contact/crash' dangers, which of the two drivers is better at the other areas or perhaps: if we will have a blind eye to that issue, which of those two is gonna get us a win?"
then i think there is ZERO doubt at all that Seb will be the one.
They already evaluated Kvyat and Gasly, and neither of them were found fit for the RBR seat.
They're now weighing in on Albon, and unfortunately for Alex, he's under a magnifying glass now and his last result wasn't too positive.
We could thus actually see Seb end up in a RedBull after all. Matter of fact, if Marko had to choose 'as it is', i think there is little doubt that between Vettel, Albon, Gasly and Kvyat, that Vettel is THE fastest and best driver of them all, so turning out to be an 'easy' decision if you may.
Interesting enough, I think Vettel would also push Max a lot harder than Albon ever would.
What I would be most interested in would be: Would RBR actually grab Vettel DURING the 2020 season and replace Albon DURING the 2020 season and put Lexy boi back in a AlphaTauri (Adios Kvyat/Gasly)?
Ferrari would surely bring in Raikkonen alongside LeClerc, and Alfa Romeo would probably replace Kimi with Kubica.
That would turn 2020 in the most insane season ever in history.
What i think is most interesting of it all is that it's not even that unimaginable, and that it could actually happen.
Will it? very much remains to be seen.
But i think it's pretty clear Mercedes is not going to be giving Seb a seat, and since Renault and Mclaren are shut,
it'll be either RedBull or Aston Martin, and it's safe to say that RedBull would be the safest bet.
