This car do not use Merc's 'size zero' cooling system so it also have different (bulkier) sidepods + different front suspension components, so it's slower than the original W10 IMO. The new PU could brings 6 tenth but this car loses 3, compared to the W10 on this track. :P
Besides, arent 2020 cars heavier?

2kg from the 2nd fuel flow meter. 1kg is ~0.03s/lap

Interesting comparison. Both cars are stable. Racing point has better top end speed.
Can see clear difference in driver skill. HAM has quicker steering and more aggressive where it is needed. Stroll has sort of a slower reaction to the changes and has to compensate afterward.

notice turn 4 and 1, where people were impressed with the merc.. the rp20 is able to carry the same speed through those turns. its medium speed and traction, and Lewis where the merc is leaps ahead

Despite the fact Stroll out qualified his team mate, it seems he left a decent slice of time on the table. Have the apex a lot of room in 1,2,5 as well as the last corner. He also takes too much curb in 7 which compromise drive.

I wonder what that car's theoretical best might have been...

wrong thread i know, but Hamilton did also. scrubbed quite a bit extra speed through turn 3 (compared to stroll at least) and he was really slow through the chicane compared to Bottas. goes to show theres always time on the table around the lap no matter how perfect they look.

Stroll is always moving the wheel a lot, looks always nervous to me like he is not completely confident with how the car feels.

Iv`e watched it a few times and it`s phenomenal how much lock the Merc [Black] is able to put on at speed without getting much understeer. On pretty much every corner, some noticable more than others if you look at the steering wheel angle from horizontal it is some crazy on rail stuff for both cars really.
It looks like the pink panther is going to put the cat amongst the pigeon :)

Maybe it`s just a steering lock gear ratio thing but there are a few corners where they put simialr lock on!

This car is as good as it looks. If they had this last year (which is impossible since it is copied from last year's Merc, but just for the sake of the argument let's just assume), then they would have been championship contenders.

How is it that the low rake concept is working so well? Should others try it?

I'm pretty sure the low rake philosophy has proven to be better since 2017...😏

Maybe, but surprised how well RP has set up the car around it. No issues this far, seems to be working mechanical out of the box.

I think that despite what some say they have not just cut and past it, but have really tried to understand the philosophy behind the design.
They made it plain that it was a 'one year only' thing, so will not have the option next year, so mo point starting again from square one with a unknown. I would bet money on next years car being based on this one, but with their own development. Time spent understanding the set up options will be invaluable to them later on.
When arguing with a fool, be sure the other person is not doing the same thing.
