Now we also have the fixed ICE race mode. See how that develops in the next races. Teams need to find new optimisations. Few observations/thoughts after first race / Monza:
1) Dynamics of the qualy sessions is changed since same power is deployed every hot lap. This gives a focus more on performance of the driver
2) My impression is that overtaking is hampered because you cannot create enough overspeed with charged battery and a higher engine mode (at least in Monza)
3) ICE is at risk of overheating, so driver now use short shifting and running out of slipstream until better cooling or optimised engine modes are dialed in. Which manufacturer is best / most smart can run in higher mode (even with development of variable cooling inlets (of possible/legal)?) This could indicate that race power is not only PU effeciency limited, but also PU cooling effeciency limited.
4) VER was running closely behind BOT, could it be that overheating was part of the issue? His team radio could shed light on that may be? Gasly had benefits with cooling with running in clean air most of the race
5) Did Honda test with AT a higher engine mode than with RB? If so the stars were perfectly aligned to benefit from that with Gasly fortunate pitstop. In the end he could fend off Sainz on worn tires.
