I don`t get it: drivers complaining for the soft tyres are graining, meaning they couldn`t get enough heat into them.
Then Merc drivers and Albon went on the medium ones and get better times despite this tyres has a higher operation window than the softs.

Seems to me that (at least for the Merc drivers) they couldn`t afford to get to much load/heat into the softs not to overheat towards the end and thus slide more and end up with a slower time. And the reason why they couldn`t afford is due to their race setup which favors the medium tyres they`ll start on the race tomorrow ...

So I expect a 1 stop race for them and 2 stops for all but VER who is a dark horse for the race.

And last but not least very good job for LEC once again!
The softs start going off in sector 3, the rear left overheats and leads to entry oversteer, the medium keeps its temperature perfect but requires a aggressive out lap to turn on. The hard tires won't work too well, and the mediums will not be enough to do a one stop, the softs won't last more than 13 or 14 laps, so it looks like mediums to lap 35-40, then softs and pray they can make it to the end. Or starting on softs, and praying the mediums can make it to the end. Either way I see a one stop being marginal unless the hards work.

LEC impresses the hell out of me some days.

Merc has some serious pace here.

Someone please put Russell in a faster car, even the Ferrari!
Or the Red Bull! :D

It staggers belief that some think Hamilton would comprehensively defeat Russell.
Russell would give Hamilton a lot of trouble. He'd give Max or Charles a lot of trouble too. The kid is seriously quick.
in Qualifying, for sure - but so does Bottas. Russell hasn't really shown much race craft yet in F1

Bottas is stuck on doing the opposite of Hamilton even if it will hurt him.
To be fair I understand the logic. If you can’t beat him doing the same thing then you have to try and do something else. I like he’s trying to be bold and do something different. It’s the way Red Bull have been taking the fight to Merc and it sometimes pays out a big reward.

I think it’ll be too little too late this year for sure, but maybe one last go at it next year?

Lewis would eat Russel alive, or any other youngster for that matter. Only Max can challenge him in the same car, from the guys on the grid right now.

You don't get much chance to do race craft when you're generally at the back in a race-poor car. His own speed puts the car up the grid, but no one can drive qualifying laps for an entire grands prix.
If you are more fortunate than others, build a larger table not a taller fence.

I'm thinking bottas thought that 1 flying lap with less fuel than Hamilton would be the best choice. Hamilton took the choice of more fuel and 2 flying laps to get a shot at pole. His choice worked out. Interesting Qualifying.

I like RUS but he’s made critical mistakes in race situation, particularly in Mugello and Austria (I believe) where he threw away good starting position and potential points finish.

He’s consistently fast over a lap but he lacks polish on Sunday.

Very Prost-like approach since he was on the back foot.

I think it’s a James Hunt quote that “you can make a guy more careful but you can’t make him fast”. It seems Russell Is very quick, he could learn a lot from Lewis especially if he has access to his data. Starting at the back you’re between a rock and a hard place event. I do agree Russell’s resume is lacking that standout race drive, however in his favour he doesn’t seem to crash much.

What a performance by Leclerc once again. He's in another league compared to his team mate, as confirmed by Vettel himself too.

Wrong. Is clear to me Vettel is racing for racing pointy already. In addition, the unusual
ferrari way kicked him out at season start, put him in such a state he does not want to takeany points at all

Then he should have quit and let someone else drive the car. He seems happy enough to continue taking Ferrari’s money.
