Race tomorrow should give a clear picture. Does not help that Gasly already has to change his EC and battery, so have 23 laps to go on this set.
What do you mean by gasly having to change the ec and battery? Is something the problem?McMika98 wrote: ↑27 Mar 2021, 18:41Honda have made gains but they seem to be taking the risk and running at higher attrition than competition, Q1 lap on AT seem to be on high modes. AT has a proper exhaust mic next to the wastegates where as redbull has the exhaust mic next to the gearbox now quite away from the exhaust
Toto Wolff: 'The Honda engine seems to have gotten a lot better. They have done very well in particular by releasing the electrical energy in the engine. In principle, we ran out of energy at the end of the round, but that did not bother Red Bull. They passed us by in that area. '

So with the TD last year, did it ban the unlimited MGU-K->ES->MGU-H energy pathway altogether? Or was it more too it than that? I thought the point of that unlimited area was to encourage development of the MGU-H throughout the years...Snorked wrote: ↑28 Mar 2021, 01:30Great job by Honda, from having their ERS nullified to being on top?
Mercedes apparently have had issues with their hybrid system since last year - did they get hit by the TD too? Maybe Mudflap has some info on this...

ye, they are done. konec, kaputt, finito. which will be problem on longer term, since there are only two parts allowed from those for the entire season. which is the better case. its very unusual to swap engine parts after 3 free practices.ryaan2904 wrote: ↑27 Mar 2021, 19:33What do you mean by gasly having to change the ec and battery? On the BBC feed, they reported issues in FP3, so he had to use a new set of EC unit and battery.ryaan2904 wrote: ↑27 Mar 2021, 19:33What do you mean by gasly having to change the ec and battery? verstappen's mediums are fresher than merso's because of less forced lap. But even if this is not the case, it is different things to being faster at one lap and being faster at long runs.McMika98 wrote: ↑28 Mar 2021, 11:17On the BBC feed, they reported issues in FP3, so he had to use a new set of EC unit and battery.ryaan2904 wrote: ↑27 Mar 2021, 19:33What do you mean by gasly having to change the ec and battery? One thing is clear that on quali, Honda seem to be up there; validated by AT being very close to Merc. Race pace will be interesting in terms of engine advantage. Funny how the likes of Autosport are jumping on the Redbull bandwagon:

I don't think they have a clear chassis advantage, they got rid of their problem of unstable rear which is plaguing Merc especially on the soft tyres. On mediums the Merc are quicker. The engine is a bigger difference maker than Redbull aero.

Reliability problems even before race 1? Honda did say they were worried about reliability. However, I'm still impressed with that power unitMcMika98 wrote: ↑28 Mar 2021, 11:17On the BBC feed, they reported issues in FP3, so he had to use a new set of EC unit and battery.ryaan2904 wrote: ↑27 Mar 2021, 19:33What do you mean by gasly having to change the ec and battery?
