Ferrari had set their car up for the race. They sacrificed speed hoping to pull a 1 stop on the softs. I think that's where the straight line problem came from
Correct, they put on more DF for the race also keeping in mind the high percentage of the chance of rain - this is what both Binotto and Leclerc told Sky F1 Italy. So if it wasn't for the very unfortunate red flag, it would have been the perfect strategy. One cannot say that McLaren didn't follow the same idea but you can't say the Ferrari PU is inferior to Merc just because Leclerc couldn't pass Lando on the straights.
Both mercedes and mclaren ran full wings as well, same as Ferrari. Ferrari pu is still atleast 20 hp behind im afraid

The PU is still not Merc-level in terms of top speed, even looking at the Q3 speed traps for all the Ferrari teams versus the Hond and Merc teams. But the good thing is Ferrari have good aero, they somehow manage to get a top 5 laptime in Q3 yet again.

It’s not like “if all teams put on the biggest wing the downforce is the same for everyone”.
Top speed is much much more dictated by drag of the car than plain horsepower.
After the race Leclerc even told they had gambled on more DF than planned before and they knew they would be vulnerable on the straights.
It did help them the first part of the race and without the red flag I think it would have paid off with 3rd place.

Wait, I agree they might not have the same df levels, but if they have similar wings, dont they have similar drag as well? At that point, speed does depend on the engine.
Also overall throughout the race, the Ferraris looked nowhere like an attacking car dude. They looked like a proper 'pace' car, but not an attacking car. Leclerc even had a better pace than norris at the end but just couldn't get the move done.

No, even with similar wings you can not see which car has more drag....
If Leclerc had better pace than Norris but less speed on the end of the straights it seems he gained in the corners which could mean he had more df on the car.

Ferrari had the spoon RW available and tested for Imola, i think they decided not to use it betting on the rain.
Unfortunately for them, the red flag reset the advantage they acquired in the wet.

Regardless of wing, I think the Ferrari was the 3rd fastest car out there this weekend even with a relative PU disadvantage. I think that's a huge improvement.

Mercedes used a trimmed rear wing during the race, one that didn't extend all the way up, probably helped a lot when they had overtake.

Mclaren was using the same model wing as Bahrain, not sure if at full level of downforce but close to it no doubt, Mclaren also seems to be naturally less draggy than Mercedes so that helps too.

I'm imaging the face of the young Ferrari fan which receive the wheel of the worst Ferrari F1 car in the latest 40 years!!!
:-)
It's like if in 1993 someone had gifted me (then 17 years old) with something related to the F92A!!!

Maybe that's why it is only $350 and not ridiculously expensive like a Rexing or other sim racing brand :)
