Alpine A521

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Marko compleinning about Alpine flexible rear wing. The irony of Redbull not happy with the flexibility of others. Thought they never had problems with it as they were the masters on the area. I guess Alpine and Alfa are now the top dogs on designing flexible wings

Why is that a rear wing Bend and not the rear suspension squat?

Because the wing and camera are fixed relative to each other via the body?

The camera is in that black horizontal tube about 4"(10 CMs) near the roll hoop. The rake fulcrum is the front wheels. The rear wing squat will travel much more the camera. Even so, the rear wing drop would still be apparent if they both dropped together.

The grid lines are "fixed" to the camera. The camera and fin are both fixed to the car. Notice that the tip of the fin doesn't move vertically relative to the grid lines. Thus the only thing moving is the wing relative to the camera. This takes out the effect of the suspension squat and just shows the motion of the wing relative to the camera.
If you are more fortunate than others, build a larger table not a taller fence.

I see your point for RBR but for Alpine, it's just squatting!

If the grid lines were painted on a wall fixed the the ground behind the car then I agree. But the grid and the camera are essentially rigidly fixed together, which is why it can be used to measure the relative flex.

My argument, if I choose to accept it , would be...

From the side of the car, the distance between the floor and the ground where the camera is vs the distance from the floor to ground at rear wing, Must be half(rake).

Therefore where is that extra travel?
