Looked to me that Gas was matching Alonso. They were both catching Ric. Once Gas caught Ric, Ric started to hold up Gas.
At some point Alonso was over 3 seconds behind Gas and brought it down to a second before Gas caught RIC so ALO defo had a little bit more pace but GAS was saved by RIC being slower. Alonso had DRS on GAS before GAS had DRS on RIC but only for a a couple of laps which was not enough.
Ok, Alo was faster that Gas, Gas was faster that Ric but neither of them could get passed Ric, who didn't have DRS.

Think if they would have has a 2.2 sec pitstop, Alonso would have ended up ahead Gas.
Yeah the pit stop was something like 4 seconds almost so that would have made the difference.

True, Alonso had one of the longest pit stops, had he saved some time there (and went for tyre change couple of laps earlier) he would have been at least in front of Gasly, maybe even manage to pass Ricciardo. :)

Summer races generally mean harder compounds if I'm not mistaken?
It seems they suit Alpine car better. It's great to see the team can properly fight for points, on hard tyre the race pace is really good.

Are we in for a good friday and disappointing weekend again?
What is down to? Are the alpine running too low on fuel or not doing their homework enough on friday night or are other teams hiding their cards better?

Chances are it’s going to be a wet weekend anyway… and today’s running is worthless

ALO is an amazing driver. I wish he was still with McLaren. The guy is within the top 10 of best drivers ever to have turned a wheel in F1. And top 3 in race craft

Agree!

It’s really awesome seeing good old competitive Alonso back, it’s so obvious he is enjoying back in f1 again. With a typical good start, smart strategy and a bit of luck combined, P5 could be achievable I think.

Interesting article...https://the-race.com/formula-1/the-alon ... on-behind/
maybe its happening again, Alonso coming back and placing alpine car on better places than it should be, while actualy car is getting slower which is seen in Ocon results and team are blaming Ocons performance while for real the car is to blame.

Might be but all Friday and Saturday morning both were nearly equal on times. Until Quali. So I will assume other circumstances too.
