After these 2 races, I think Ferrari dropped a lot of potential points unfortunately. No doubt McLaren has the 3rd fastest car at this stage (in Lando's hands)... but they've had a lot of pace in the race that they couldn't really utilise, either due to being stuck behind other cars or poorer qualifying.
Hoping that they can have a bit of a strong showing in Silverstone in a couple of weeks time... but at the same time, long term wise if Ferrari finishes P4 they'll get a bit of extra time in the wind-tunnel getting prepared for 2022.
Last week I agree, Charles crash wasted a P5 but today they did a solid damage limitation job. Fantastic drive from Sainz both weeks. Lando is just driving incredibly. He capitalises when the car is fast like we failed to do in Monaco and to some extent Baku
I think in some senses there were points lost, in the sense that the race pace seemed genuinely very strong both weeks and up there with Lando/Bottas’ today. But I’m not sure that - without some luck - it could really have gone much differently. They needed to sacrifice some quali pace (or so it seems) to get this good race pace and that meant they were always in traffic.
I don’t think the McLaren is definitively the faster car, I think it’s very track dependent. There could potentially be more tracks that suit the McLaren - especially with Singapore gone - but I think the upside for the Ferrari is good; I think a pole, a podium and conceivably even a win is potentially in the cards for Hungary (not saying they will win or get pole but I think they can be in the fight).
