Somebody tell Mercedes they are competing in F1, not destruction derby
Joking aside. F1 is rapidly becoming a liability for Mercedes rather than an asset. In the end the brand and image is more important than winning.

Wouldn’t be surprised if we see some changes soon.
Let it go.

Accidents happen in F1 when competing
No worries, agree these things happen, got no issue with the accident.

It is not that these things happen, cause they will, but how you deal with them. PR wise I think F1 Mercedes has been an unmitigated disaster this year. Toto at the center but the drivers are also not free of blame. It kind of reminds me of Ferrari in 2006.

And in the end that will hurt the bottom line. The brands are there to sell cars, owning the least likable team in F1 does not help.

Horner claiming Max could have PU damage is just nonsense, if there was any hint of that they would have retired the car to prevent further damage. It's just classic Horner laying it on thick as per usual, if you listen carefully you could probably hear the violins playing in the background.

Max actually had already pitted and went from 8 down to 15 before the red flag came out. There wasn’t much to repair tough. Rip the remaining parts of. Sorry
I really thought "maybe they'll be able to screw on at least some parts" but there was probably nothing left they could attach anything to and all they did is close the carbon edges on the floor and other parts which were ripped open ... it's quite possible that they just did not want to risk taking the car apart too much for repairs because that might have left them with an unfinished car for the restart.
You are not allowed to lift it and they needed floor off to be able to do anything.
He should’ve been instructed back into the garage for a more thorough check; it was a substantial hit.

Not being funny but reversing in a live pit lane is generally frowned upon.

I know it's easy to say after the event.

But when Seb stopped at the side of the track my first thought was did he have enough fuel for testing.

Absolutely. I meant he shouldn’t have been instructed to even take his place in the pit lane queue; he can go to the garage directly, no?

How do they change tires without lifting it?

Aye. For some reason the Sky team (Chandhok) were saying it was fine.

Same thinking, I don't know but I have in my mind too many Vettel's pictures parking the car just after crossing the checkered flag (RBR, Ferrari, ...) . A bit strange ...

It's not super uncommon for someone to stop on track but it's been years since someone was DSQ'ed for not providing a sufficient fuel sample.

But at some point he would need to reverse though because the cars go in backwards.

since this year the fuel outside the fuel tank went from 2 liters to 0.25. so, Vettel really emptied his tank (they found one shot glass still in there).

until this season it was:
fuel tank - fuel flow meter - low pressure fuel pump (going outside tank) - max two liters of overflow tank - high pressure pump - injectors

not it is:
fuel tank - fuel flow meter 1 - low pressure fuel pump (going outside tank) - ¼ liter of fuel - high pressure pump - fuel flow meter 2 - injectors.

so, if you ran the tank bone dry, there was still at least 2 liters in the system. Now there is not.

That was before the camera had shown the extent of the damage, before it was clear that most attachment points were gone but yea they can do whatever as long as they do it where the car stands and only lifted with the jacks, right?

Regarding Max' engine - it would be weird if the PU couldn't take such a relatively small shunt? Especially since it seemingly ran fine throughout the race? The issue for Perez wasn't the impact itself, Bottas' rear tyre just open up his rad and he lost all coolant (it's good to see in the heli cam replay in the highlights) ... I watched the race start a few more times and Verstappen was "lucky" (please note the usage of quotation marks) that Norris front tyre only hit his bargeboard area, i was initially surprised that the suspension could handle such an impact but their wheels did not touch until most of the force was dispensed, could have been a DNF with a broken suspension.

Another thing is how close it was for Hamilton, he got away by 0.5 to 1m - i think that should really put to bed the theory that he somehow had the mental capabilities to play billiard with F1 cars, shoving Norris into Max and then smashing into Perez.
Yeah, no worries, I appreciate your posts! Yep, only with the jacks, no more. Maybe (max too had a rip in the body work at the radiator spot) that caused some overheating? Hopefully it was just a misunderstanding in the press and it was “only” Perez’ unit. We now have both RBR drivers starting a further race from the back.
