What I don't understand is that when people say sportsperson should not talk about social issues, then who?
Politicians? Whose motto is to divide and rule...
Seb has every right to speak his mind as much as anyone else has to follow or ignore it

Agree. The way I see it, if the world was a fairer, more equal place for everyone then Vettel or Hamilton or anyone else from the world of sport, music or film wouldn’t have to say anything. Sadly it’s not a fair and equal place. I have to say I admire they are doing something about it, both with words and with actions.

Like Hamilton's posts about his nephew wearing a dress (“I’m so sad right now. Look at my nephew. Why are you wearing a princess dress? Is this what you got for Christmas? Boys don’t wear princess dresses!” ) and covid vaccine conspiracy theories, deleting it only after being called out on it? Lewis talks about his "character" but won't let his gf use his bathroom, or his own pilot from taking a crap on his airplane. At least Vettel's actions are far more noble and he doesn't use any "platform". He does it quietly with humility. No topless selfies, no bling bling rapper friends. I agree this forum should stick to talking about Formula 1 and racing, instead of talking up Hamilton's "character".

Thought I was on your ‘ignore’ list? I guess yet another opportunity for you to add nothing of value to a conversation but just to speak ill of someone was just too good a chance to turn down, eh?

Anyway,

let's go back ontopic, shall we?

First of all, pretty sad to see Vettel stripped of his P2. I hope Vettel will end up having his P2 after the appeal is dealt with, but i'm very much afraid that there's little to be done against not having 1 liter of fuel in your car when you need to have 1 liter of fuel in your car. And though i feel like DSQ is a extreme measure that is in no way comparable to the issue, that is - i expect - the standard penalty. Would a 10 second or 5 place grid penalty be fairer? I very much think so, to be honest. Getting completely stripped from the race due to just more than 0,5 a liter of fuel in the car - especially after finishing P2 well deserved - to me sounds very unfair compared to Bottas 'just' getting a 5 place grid penalty after taking out essentially 3 cars all at once. Bottas' move reminded me of Grosjean's mad bonkers crash years ago.

I don't know what there is to appeal to in the end but since AMR is appealing the decision, i would guess that there might be some hope that it might have a different outcome in the end.

Vettel's car will have been guaranteed within the maximum consumption rate, so it's not like he has burnt more fuel than his opponents. I would also be inclined to believe that the minimum amount of lesser fuel in his car isn't enough either to have a benefit compared to the cars behind him.

I could understand the point where not having enough fuel would be a case of the FIA being hampered to look into whether the fuel that has been used was up to legal standards, and thanks to that it could be questionable whether the car earns the position it finished in compared to the competition.

However, though i am not a laboratory fuel scientist, i can't really imagine how you can't sufficiently investigate 0,3 liters of fuel.

Perhaps Aston Martin is able to provide fuel of Stroll's car, their fuel supplies, and compare this to the 0,3 liters in Vettel's car to prove that his fuel was not different and as such, up to the mandated standard. Perhaps there are instances where competitors ended up with 0,9 liters of fuel instead of 1,0 liter and did not get penalized. If that is the case, then they might have a stand.

Otherwise, the end verdict is probably going to be unavoidable, even though it's pretty hard: if the rules mandate 1,0 liter of fuel, and there isn't 1 liter of fuel, then you're DSQ.

***

On to the rest.

Amazing battle between Alonso and Hamilton. That was a return of two champions having a field day. I loved just how hard the blows were but never actually unfair. I loved how Alonso immediately put his elbow out quite firm and asserted dominance and who's really the Alfa Male there. Amazing how Fernando, in inferior material, was able to keep Hamilton behind him without any chance all thanks to driver skill. Too bad that he ended up locking up ever so slightly and couldn't position his car to block Lewis anymore.

It was especially revealing how fantastic and heavyweight fighter of a driver Alonso still is, looking at how swiftly Hamilton then got up to Sainz and 'easily' passed Sainz.
Get Fernando a win capable car, please!

Great driving by Ocon.
Yes, he was lucked by the bowling ball that is Bottas taking out half the field in front of him, but he did manage to avoid that situation completely, as did Vettel.
And yes, he also was lucked by Hamilton not getting into the pits, otherwise Lewis would simply have vanished into the distance and it would have been a 'boring' win for Lewis.

Still, he was there, and he did manage to drive perfect all the time, and keep Vettel behind him. A deserved win. And i would argue if Vettel managed to overtake him, it also would
have been a deserved win for Vettel. However, Ocon kept in front so great applause there.

Very happy for Russell to finally get his well earned points, but am equally or even more surprised to see LATIFI in front of him scoring more points.
That is just absolute bonkers more, from all the moments from all the possibilities, Latifi finishes IN FRONT of Russell. Too bad for Russell to have had an off-day on his Mr Saturday spree i guess.

Also, great racing from Mick Schumacher. I think finally we saw some skill and talent on display. The driving between him and Russell was tense but fair, and i think i even saw some Micheal-esque moves there. Please put him in a decent car too. Gutted he hasn't scored a point though.

Then, Bottas. Great way to guarantee an end to your Mercedes career bud. No excuses there, that was a mind-boggling stupid crash.

Verstappen. Yes, he had bad luck again, but let's start with some obvious things first: Perez had less luck, and so did Norris.
Instead, Verstappen - despite having a mangled vehicle - atleast got lucky enough to be able to race AND benefit from a Red Flag.

Both RedBull AND Verstappen however made a huge mistake, imo something that is without any defense.
They lucked infinitely when Hamilton stayed out and had to come in and end up ALL THE WAY at the back.

Hamilton - a couple of laps in - realised that on the strategy the had, he was never going to pass the cars on front of him. They tried it for a few laps more, but it was clear it was not going to work. That much SHOULD have been clear too for Verstappen - especially given how he has a damaged car, simply staying behind another car hoping for a magical bunny to help you out was just a totally indefensive.

Mercedes calculated quickly enough that taking a pitstop time loss but paired to fast tires would result in sufficient speed to overtake and get 'into the groove'.
Immediately Hamilton rocketeered by everybody and at that point RedBull should have decided that they should copy that and go for damage prevention.

Instead, they just trailed on. Lost. RBR themselves cost them much more points.

With Hamilton finishing P3, I think it would not have been impossible for Verstappen to have finished P6 - Especially with Gasly and Tsunoda to simply step aside for the RBR mothership.
That also means If vettel does get DSQ on a final verdict, then Hamilton P2 means Verstappen would have finished P5, meaning wheeling in 10 points instead of the 'current' 2 points.
With 8 points more, he would actually be equal on points with Hamilton.

Also i really don't like RBR's mentality after the silverstone clash, and Horner's attitude. It's really sore behaviour and unprofessional.
Also i really dislike abusing the sister team to steal a point from Hamilton/Mercedes in the form of a fastest lap.

Either way, this has been a bonkers race - couldn't have imagined anything like this at all, and i can't remember having seen such an odd race ever.
From the chaotic start, to then having the entire field -minus hamilton- go into the pits. That was a crazy sight. Then to see Lewis go to the back.
Mick keeping up a fight. Russell in the points. Latifi in front. Raikkonen taking out Mazespin in the pit. Hamilton coming back for an actual podium,
and Fernando fighting legendary. Then to have Ocon not knowing what to do - not so strange after changing the parking position form the finish straight to the pit.
And then to see Vettel get DSQ for a lousy fuel sample. Not because they have been cheating, just because they couldn't get out enough - supposedly.

again, i hope AMR is able to drain just enough fuel from the car to get them enough to measure and have this over with and keep the spot.

but what a bonkers GP. please, more of this.

Race stewards will carry on tomorrow. Some are speculating that Hamilton may inherit the win because Ocon didnt stop his car at the right place. Alonso may get DSQ as well for giving Hamilton a tough time.

AlphaTauri won the point for themselves!

Gasly has the gap, of course he goes for the extra point for his own WDC.

Yes, he was in the top 10, so sure they get the point. And yes that benefits Gasly too.
But it's gonna be hard to convince me that this was not due to a phone call from Helmut or Horner to Tost to get either of the Alpha Tauri's to get a point.

They did it in silverstone with Perez. I guess each point taken away from Lewis counts.

What was interesting for me was that it seemed like only Lewis figured out how to overtake at this track. The others seem to struggle with pulling off the moves.

Let me demonstrate.. Hamilton makes his own luck by pulling off key moves in the race that people fail to notice because they are busy moaning over things like rainbow T shirts.

Hamilton's overtake on Riciardo after the pits. Very critical move to stay ahead!

Then overtake on tsunoda.. and so on.

The driver has to make his own luck.

Verstappen overtook Riccardo as well, that's how he got a point.
