If George is going to Mercedes then Verstappen can say goodbye to titles even after Hamilton retires
And then it turns out the 2022 Mercedes is a tourbus, and the 2022 Williams is actually the car to beat
Amen
We need a miracle. We need only one racing lap.

It does seem pretty clear GR is going to Mercedes. It seems the loose end is what happens to Bottas. Putting him back in the Williams does seem overly harsh, but his only other options are Alfa or Haas...

Unless of course there is a performance clause in Ricciardo's contract...

Who is the favorite for the spare Williams seat that George vacates?

Well, motorsport.com (Italy) hints that Albon is in the running for that seat. Not a reliable source I suppose, but who knows. He was in his F2 days not far apart from RUS.

Jenson Button is advisor for Williams, so I wouldn't be suprised if he has put in a good word for his fellow compatriot.

Not gonna lie, a lineup with Albon/Latifi seems like a backwards step for Williams, if it were to come to that. I felt like the comment about Williams not needing a "pay driver" was a sign of things to come. Albon/Latifi lineup doesn't look like a real statement of intent from them. But, let's see how it pans out.

Besides Albon, Nyck de Vries’ name has been rumoured. They were both very competative with Russel and Norris in F2.

If not Albon, would Williams sign someone like Hulkenberg, or even Giovinazzi should Alfa not re-sign him?

Latest rumor is Gio would be reserve driver at Ferrari and De Vries is being brought in to replace him for Bottas/De Vries line up.

Williams need not only a good driver who will bring headlines, but also someone who brings, directly or indirectly, money. I mean they either need Mercedes kit to come with the driver, or the driver bring enough in cash or sponsorship to allow them to pay full price.

Albon may well bring lots of media attention in areas their sponsors want their name seen, but is he good enough to get the cameras on the car in the way George does?
When arguing with a fool, be sure the other person is not doing the same thing.

Next year will be a clean slate and provide opportunity for the true racers to outshine. Budget and new regs should level the field so the car should not matter especially in the first half.
Glad Albon is given a second chance, he will deliver more points for sure. Expecting Hamilton and Max to crash many a times when every1 can race against them fairly.

The big thing is the word “should”, or the hope that the field is closer together.
Budget cap might work but the last attempt didn’t work as planned (the cap in wind tunnel time and CFD flops).

My prediction is one or two teams with a significant lead and the rest are playing catch up for years again.

Silly day, today
Russel to Merc and Bottas/ de Vries at Alfa. I actually would like that from the drivers side.

But with that Toto becomes even more powerful in the sport. I am not sure that necessarily is a good thing.

How would Toto becomes more powerful? Toto may be Driver manager for Bottas and De Vries, but Ferrari controls Alfa.

If the story is correct the deal would include Alfa switching to Merc engines
