This sidepod deflector looks so basic. I believe they are trying to understand the whole sidepod deflector concept better in this couple of races.
What's basic about it? Lack of slots? Surface area? 3d shape of the aerofoil?
I'm perplexed to hear people say it's basic or not complex enough without even understanding what the device is attempting to accomplish. Ever stop to think that maybe having it extend to the floor may negatively interact with other features of the car downstream? The car isn't in it's final form but it's not underdeveloped, and the people in McLaren aren't clueless. Think of it this way while everyone rushes to bolt on parts, then having to re design them, and make countless iterations for marginal gains, McLaren is being methodical and introducing a big update in one go.
In the mean time they make small detail adjustments to get things to work better. I'd say the aero of the McLaren is good but has the potential to be great, it just needs refinement.
