Im sick of Qualifying being a dull bore-fest for the most part, Qualifying is becoming to the point that only a quater of the 60 minuite session is worth watching. Also the Tires need to be improved to provide a little more durability, however still be able to provide 3 or 4 hot laps on the option and still be able to make it to at least lap 10 of the race.
My suggestions:
Race Tyres/Strategy/Quali
• Each team will get 9 sets of dry tyres per car per weekend. 4 sets of prime and 5 sets of options.
• Each car shall get a set of primes and two sets of options taken away from it after each FP1 & FP2.
• After FP3 a further set of each dry compound shall be taken away from each car.
• Going into Quali & Race that gives each car 2 sets of primes and 3 sets of options.
• Each car shall have a set of options set aside for it for Q3. Cars that dont get into Q3 shall be given this set back for the race. This is the set they must qualify on and take into the race.
• Each car has to do at least 8 laps in Q1, 6 laps in Q2 and 4 laps in Q3. That's a minimum of 18 laps in total as a minimum for times to be activated.
• Q3 cars do so in a so in a single lap shoot out style where the fastest in Q2 will go last. The cars shall be released in 20 second increments, and shall return to parc ferme immediately.
• Teams who fall out in Q1 do not have to worry about a 2 compound rule and
• All cars must run with 75Kg of fuel onboard as well in order to go faster you have to burn fuel. Not green, but avoids a bore-fest.
• There will be a pit window introduced where teams must make their stops after 50Km of the race is complete and before the last 50Km of the race is done. This would be lap 8 for Spa and lap 15 for Monaco for the start of the pit window.
• Teams who run a FP1 driver shall get a set of options given to them for that driver to aid his development.
This may introduce a bit of a "WWE" element to F1, but i think having clear rules and targets like this would strike the bridge between the guys who want the lottery aspect to F1 and the real racers. Meaning a driver can push, however there will be a aspect where he will have to drive slower for a while in order to make it. It will also give enough variation for the strategists to play with and also give enough for everyone to be content with F1. However tires would last an average of 20 laps, some tracks more and some tracks less than that figure, but on average it would be a target of 20 laps, from an average of 180 laps for a weekend from a 5Km average track. It would mean Quali would be a important aspect of the weekend and a aspect that needs to be done well in order to get an ace result for the weekend.
Any thoughts?
