Hamilton looks like he is on rails from the onboards.. they seem to have found a great balance right away, no twitches in the slow corners even…

in the first half of the season, RB was arriving on track quick out of the box. Since silverstone, Max has bemoaned understeer issues at a few of the tracks. Some speculate its the effect the RB is feeling from the new Pirelli's.

a theory: The new tyres has created a correlation issue between the RB simulator, and what goes on out on track. Maybe thats why the RB is struggling with understeer initially. obviously they struggled the most to fix it at Hungary.

Early days, but in race trim Hamilton is crushing at the moment. Blitzing S2 lap after lap especially. Interesting..

Who will set which sectors purple in qualifying?
Hmm redbull sectors 1 and 2. Mercedes sector 3. Will 3 be enough to make up for 1 and 2?
W12 could be 0.2s a lap slower. A repeat of Zandvoort if Merc cannot make it up on the straights.

Wouldn’t the RB like the last corners in S3? I thought S2 was gonna be on for MCS with S1 and 3 for Red bull.
This is what I was thinking. But the Red Bull should be strong tomorrow just purely based on the fact that it activates its tyres better in cold - wet conditions.

I would say Nope. These new rear tyrew have stiffer and more consistent sidewalls, which make it orders easier to understand in the wind tunnel. It's like moving from a floppy baseball bat to a rigid one, it's much easier to hit the ball.

I think the problem Max is facing is just setup. He drives the car in an unusual way, almost on the edge to get it that much faster. They way it is set up now, (maybe for low rear grip?) he feels he cannot drive it the way he needs. He will be back strong in FP2.

Ferrari are looking good in FP2. Practice bluffing or actually in this weekend?

Low grip track. Like in Azer or Russia. Not surprising that they are strong.

I'm not able to watch the FPs today, is anyone following onboard radio of Max and Lewis? How's the balance?

Well, Verstappen definitely doesn't sound happy with the balance.

Hamilton reported early issues with front tyres during his first outing, but it seems like with a couple of twists of the front wing, he managed to overcome the issue.

Also Merc and Ferrari race pace seems the same too so far. Red bull a little behind but I'm sure they will sort the balance out by tomorrow.

This qualifying prediction is so stupid. As if Verstappen will be anywhere near as low as tenth position when we get to the business end of qualifying.
I can't believe the commentary team is even talking about it as a serious possibility.

engines (+engine modes, of course) may have an influence as well though, of course. Some are likely to be out on very old Friday engines today, while Ferrari and Hamilton are using the new ones.

As things stand now, I think Mercedes & Ferrari are a bit ahead of Red Bull, both in Q sim as well as R sim.

If today's takeaways translate on Sunday, i.e. Bottas and/or Leclerc sneak ahead of Verstappen, I think Hamilton is on the right track minimizing the impact of the penalty.

But we're gonna see, it's too early.

Redbull just need to tune the setup a bit.
I notice the wing seems slim. Theyre trying to make ground on the back straight.
Hamilton's experience here is paying him dividends. I think he and Vettel and Alonso are the only ones who have raced here at full tilt?
Redbull's understeer is interesting, what are they doing to cause that? take off too much front wing, or front tyres have less temps than the rear?
For Sure!!
