What a --- show. Would rather have seen Lando and Daniel race than scrounge for peanuts. McLaren are most likely going to finish 4th in the championship anyway so why not just let them race. Or do they really think 4th is under threat 😐
I think so. Alpine looks quick.

Don't know how many tracks are left that suit Alpine over McLaren but guess we will see.
Finally, everyone knows that Red Bull is a joke and Max Verstappen is overrated.

Not sure what to expect from this track - gut feel says it might be similar to Melbourne? Ferrari probably got the traction to edge out Red Bull, and then we could fight for P5-10?

Relatively short track, so probably less than a second, based on past performances as well.

Looked at the track again... I think you might be right... Turns 1,2, 6 & 10 are slow which will help...

Let's hope for the best... [-o< [-o<

Also a short lap will create a congested midfield. Hopefully Mclarens newly found strength in the medium speed corners will put them towards the front of the midfield
Just a fan's point of view

Yeah that’s what I’m thinking - Montreal is a bit deceptive and anyone with good traction into the long straight might be able to defend their position.

I think Ferrari might win this one for that reason but for McLaren, I think we could be pretty nippy on this circuit and edge out the midfield competition. Ferrari should be mega in 1-2, 6 and 10.

Depending on Mercedes setup woes or breakthroughs, I think we could aim at Row 3 at best but Row 4 as realistic.

I hope we don't get mugged on this long straight at Baku. The top end was great in the car last year even if the car was weak at alot of other slower tracks, altho I think we must have gone for higher df last year as our speed trap and finish line figures were not that great from memory.

Although more braking related would love to see some more of this too. Ah the memories, human ABS. :D

Top end is good at the back end of the straight, corner exit is more important for the rest of the straight.

it'll be interesting to compare speed through the corners and at the various points of the straights to understand how the car is behaving.
Yeah most important to have good grip for the slower corners as thats where you lose most of the time, but the car seems better balanced this year overall than previously, will be interesting to see the differences compared to last year. Hopefully we can avoid a mugging though along the main straight. Love the Baku track so looking forward to it.
Which is more important really depends on the track and the severity of the strength or weakness. At each track you're always making choices and trade offs. If McLaren's grip was a little better, it would have allowed them to use less rear wing, resulting in them being faster on the straight. The opposite is also true.

Looking forward to Watch Lando this weekend. He said he never raced in Montreal before F1, and that's only happened once in 2019, due to Covid cancelations, and then he only managed a few laps before retirement (mechanical related I think)

Yes, he was having a good race until a tear off got lodge in the rear brake inlet, which increased temperatures, got on fire and ended up destroying his suspension.

Interesting analysis on speeds at Baku, the AMR speed seems to indicate that there isn’t as big of delta on the PU side and clearly McLaren and Mercedes suffering from drag (notice how they lose speed compared to what is a good exit speed of T16)

As for Norris, that huge driver he now has in his hands: “Lando in qualifying brings out the best in the car and is a sponge, he has an enormous talent for learning new techniques, altering the car's reactions or adapting to limitations. That seems exceptional to me, aside from his sheer speed.”
