I wondered if it was to do with the Green Goblin?
They are called parasite fighters. back in the late 40's and early 50's they were supposed to deploy from the bombay of heavy bombers like the b-36 to protect the bomber when in enemy territory. As you might expect it was a failed concept!

That has never been an issue. See Austria.
I initially thought the same, but the Austria exception is only applicable to sprint weekends I believe? Unless I'm mistaken when reading the rules:
Exceptionally, at an event where a sprint session is scheduled, replacement parts that are different in design will be permitted provided that the part is of a specification that has been used previously in a qualifying practice session or a race.
I think that's why there was no parc fermé breach there, but on a normal weekend Merc would've been stuffed

Discussing why a new part wasn't used is borderline off topic but i guess with the possibility of it not being legal it's just about fine?

In Austria they also had one part per driver and one spare, three total iirc, not one - so the idea that they don't want to risk breaking parc fermé isn't too far fetched.

Very impressive floor. The taller upward curl could be an indication of the strength of flow that is expected.

"Illegal" but safe parts can be tested. They just can't be used to qualify or earn points with.

Looks like its 3d printed. I'd guess CF-PEKK filament.
