It's just one race and the jury is out? If not for Mercedes putting George on a wrong tyre, we wouldn't be discussing this matter. Mercedes and George probably thought they can fight Lando and that is where George tried unsuccessfully fighting with Lando, getting his tyres a bit shot, which then gave an opportunity for Lewis to come by. He would still be fine if he was put on Softs for the last stint. Last race it was Lewis that got a raw deal with the strategy and this week, it's George. Because they are so well matched, any small issue can change their fortunes. It's not one is better than the other or any other fairy tale stuff. This is going to happen all season long.
He had to be stopped because his medium were worn and Lewis was in his DRS zone. Pitting so early the team couldn't put soft tyres for him (same for Sainz)Dunlay wrote: ↑23 Jun 2024, 18:40It's just one race and the jury is out? George couldn’t go on soft when he came in they wouldn’t last. Reason why he came in was because he cooked his tyres fighting Lando plus team prob brought him in to make sure he stayed ahead of Lewis also. Hamilton was right on his gearbox right before George pitted and would have passed himDunlay wrote: ↑23 Jun 2024, 18:40It's just one race and the jury is out? Oh Lord I should have known that if Lewis, by any chance, has a hard time beating his teammate, it's always the circumstances.
Didn't you watch Lando's first stint on full race fuel load? Lewis did 23 laps on softs in last stint and George had to do 29! There was no sign of degradation on Lewis' last stint. The track was fully rubbered and fuel keeps going down. It's just that Mercedes strategy team is still in cave age. They don't take calculated risks. Next this would happen to Lewis. It already happened to Lewis in Canada.Spoutnik wrote: ↑23 Jun 2024, 18:51He had to be stopped because his medium were worn and Lewis was in his DRS zone. OMG, one race where RUS keeps his nose clean and doesn't pull off a torpedo terrorism move, and you come to this conclusion. Nothing against him, that is his 'all or nothing style' , each driver has their own ; but to call RUS a 'clean racer' is the overstatement of the century. He is a faster, more intelligent version of Magnussen, IMHO. And that's fine. He will change. The moment he has a car that can win a championship, he will change his methods. Verstappen is proof. But please, please do not use this race to call RUS a 'respectfully driving' racer. No.
Some examples please. Some stats also help to prove your point.venkyhere wrote: ↑23 Jun 2024, 19:36OMG, one race where RUS keeps his nose clean and doesn't pull off a torpedo terrorism move, and you come to this conclusion. George clashes with barriers and fences, but Lewis clashes with others (for example, in Qatar and Miami). I would love to know how many times George has clashed with barriers and fences in 6 years of his F1 career. I would love to take that and compare with some of the most successful drivers' first 6 years in F1, that are on the grid currently.Jurgen von Diaz wrote: ↑23 Jun 2024, 19:41George clashes with barriers and fences, but Lewis clashes with others (for example, in Qatar and Miami). For example, in Singapore and Australia, those are instances where he pushes too hard at the end of the race, and there isn't another car involved. But with Lewis, there are always two in the tango.Dunlay wrote:I would love to know how many times George has clashed with barriers and fences in 6 years of his F1 career. Russell crashes consist of Imola behind the SC in the Williams, Canada in the Merc, Australia with Alonso, Silverstone with Zhou, Max in Vegas, Sainz in Austin first lap, Lewis in Qatar, Bottas in Imola, and the poor Singapore last lap crash into the barrier. That’s off the top of my head
Wasn't Alonso penalized for brake testing George in Australia? That was not on George. Some guy going crazy and parking his car is insane. So it's 1 instance in 6 years? Wow and people use that as a big deal while being fans of some the biggest crash kids F1 has seen. No disrespect to those drivers as they have turned out to be legends.Jurgen von Diaz wrote: ↑23 Jun 2024, 19:51For example, in Singapore and Australia, those are instances where he pushes too hard at the end of the race, and there isn't another car involved.
