yeah, they used all three sets in Q1. Tsunoda's crash probably didn't make much of a difference.
I only counted 3 sets used in Q1.

that's all they had. The 4th is reserved for Q3.

edit: they kept 1xH and 2xM for the race, so only had four sets of Softs for Qualifying.

Tried to leave it late in Q2 and got screwed by Tsunoda...
That must be the 3rd or 4th time this year Alonso was screwed by going out so late. If only there was a solution...
Thing is the track evolution in Mexico is crazy.

Such bad tactics, going out too early in Q1 is pointless because even if they did a perfect lap, in 5 minutes time the track would be over half a second faster, and they have to go out again anyway

I agree, don't understand why they went out so early.
The car looks alot better, especially when you consider all the low speed corners at this track. The AMR24 has sucked at slow speed corners.

Maybe Newey and Cardille won't give us a competitive car from the beginning, but I'm sure they will see the problem we can't see right now. The main problem has been not modifying the front suspension. When you modify your front wing, the flow that is channeled through the front suspension changes, yet we have not modified it anything this year. Newey and Cardille can help with the suspension, I don't believe 2025 is already lost. The team hasn't got a clue what they need to fix, but by running different part specs at least they are gathering tons of data that will help Newey/Cardille understand the car and its mistakes.
Sadly Newey is only working on the 2026 car, think Alonso said something like 5% of the team is working on the 2025 car.
unless they find a loophole or just copy the the best bits of the top teams, next year gunna be rough.
Seems the team went downhill since they tried reducing the drag last year
Cardille doesn't join until June 2025.
June!!!? I thought he was going to join in January

I thought Oct 2024 originally. Then I read the official announcement about Newey joining in March 2025. Then that announcement went on to say that Newey's joining AMR would be further reinforced with Cardille joining in June - July time frame.

So I was looking at F1-Temp comparing Sainz and Alonso and I couldn't understand why Sainz was able to carry so much more speed into corners 1 thru 3. Then I came across this post on X ..

Look at how much more Curb Ferrari can use. They're actually straightening the track by doing that.

According to Italian outlets, Cardille's sudden departure eight after making a mess of Barcelona updates was not taken well by Vasseur and top Ferrari management. They decided not to prevent him leaving, but they upheld him to the end of his contract and put up the longest gardening leave possible. June/July 25 in AMR seems about right
And they call it a stall. A STALL!

They're also losing at ton of time in Sector 2 (Car struggles with change of direction?).
Sector 2 TIME
4 Lando NORRIS 29.191
63 George RUSSELL 29.263
55 Carlos SAINZ 29.296
1 Max VERSTAPPEN 29.318
16 Charles LECLERC 29.429
81 Oscar PIASTRI 29.546
44 Lewis HAMILTON 29.546
22 Yuki TSUNODA 29.578
23 Alexander ALBON 29.580
10 Pierre GASLY 29.585
27 Nico HULKENBERG 29.592
20 Kevin MAGNUSSEN 29.624
30 Liam LAWSON 29.640
14 Fernando ALONSO 29.665
77 Valtteri BOTTAS 29.705
43 Franco COLAPINTO 29.832
18 Lance STROLL 29.848
11 Sergio PEREZ 29.859
31 Esteban OCON 29.887
24 ZHOU Guanyu 30.217
S2 starts Just before turn 4 and ends in the middle of the straight before turn 12

If We compare Norris to ALO

Image

Between the white vertical liness is S2, Obviously Before the First Vertical whitel ine is S1 and after the 2nd white line is S3.

The pink vertical line is just before the braking for turn 6. To me he's losing all his time under acceleration. He's actually gaining time under braking.

I put in a small red horizontal line to denote wheel spin.

If you look at the turn 3, last turn before the last big crest that heads in S2(turn 4), the McLaren is gaining speed(on throttle) in turn 3 while Alo is losing speed(off throttle + Brakes). I haven't see video of Norris on this but this looks like Sainz's graph when he jumps the curb at turn 3. They're just about even at turn 3 and by the time they get to turn 4 Norris is up 3 tenth. Norris Gets out of turn 3 with a 10 KPH edge in speed and carries that all the way to turn 4. This looks like a rear suspension limitation.

Feel free to tell us what you see in that.

Also curious words from Alonso. He said that the car turned into a much better one in the qualy, without having changed almost a thing. He said there was a chance to enter Q3.

If Alonso will feel the same feedback form that Q3 car. And track conditions are suitable for our car, then we can aim for p10 today. Let’s hope for a good race for his 400 gps.

I think that is again the push-rod limiting the ability to take the bumps of the curbs, then the car is more difficult to drive and keep it stable

Then also the rear is limitation. But yes I also often notice that we carry less speed into the first corners. This not the first time . I believe it is a combination of factors.

Ferrari not with 4 wheel over the white line?
