Some here have said that Alo is not a good qualifier.

Alo seems to disagree... He's said "I'm arguably the best qualifier of the year".

Now the question is who is right. Alo or some other over here? (Obviously, the answer is quite clear for me... No doubts at all).
He race craft always was better than Qualification. Yes he not strong at one lap usually...Stroll not a reference point obviously.
Stroll might not be a reference. But how about Vettel? Was he a bad qualifier?

Qualifying stats:

2021 - Vettel 14 - Stroll 8
2022 - Vettel 13 - Stroll 7
2023 - Alonso 19 - Stroll 3
2024 - Alonso 18 - Stroll 5

I think your arguments are based on weak data, mate.
I think Alonso is really good at qualifying, he's even better in a race.

How does this thing still exist that Alonso is not good at qualifying? He's been demolishing all kinds of teammates for 400 GPs now.

He is definitely not bad, some people lack nuance. His Sundays are better.

Not sure why we are having this conversation now when a week ago I posted the stats... did no one read my comment?

Qualifying duel without sprints is now 18-5 vs Stroll. 21-8 with sprints. 14-1 streak for Alonso since Hungary!

Mid-season was poor but it has improved since then to more acceptable numbers.

We now have almost two full seasons each with Alonso and Vettel facing the same teammate in the same team to compare and I think the difference is more than clear... :)

Alonso said in the post qualifying interview that they changed the setup after FP3 and suddenly the car came alive. I think the new simulator is at least encouraging.

Hopefully this is true and the car responds on track to the data it gets from the simulator. It's important to be agile and get the set-up changes right during the GP weekend. This is something that AM was lacking and lately the feeling is that they're knowing how to do it.

Don't know what some guys have with the new simulator lately.

If the new simulator had been the gamechanger, the car would have been far better from the get go, with a better base line setup.

Marko made an interesting comment yesterday that RBR has to work especially on the correlation between the tunnel/simulator and the real world, because they need a lot of track time to find the right setup. It's the same for AMR in reality.

It's for sure not a simple proccess that the new simulator goes online and suddenly they have way better data available. Naive to think that. PIA said about the updated Mclaren simulator last year that this takes time, months of work and that in reality the search for the correlation never ends.

Yesterdays qualifying was a bit unfair for STR, as the team wasted 3 sets of softs in Q1, although his 2nd outing was already enough. It's absolutely a waste of tyres to go out first on a desert track, as the track evolution is huge.

Drivers were pretty close, STR a bit faster in Q1 (having only used sets in Q2), ALO a bit on used sets in Q2. Nothing special from ALO, just the cars pace.

If a driver is going at 100% of the car's potential then that is the best driver in the world :)

I meant with that, that STR was on par with ALO under similar conditions. So both were special, or both just did their job (a good one).

Ideal sectors showed ALO faster in S1 and 3, STR in S2.

He also said that they made a change after FP2 for FP3 and did not work. I really hope it is thanks to the new simulator but the first statement give some doubts

Has there been any videos of the new simulator or WT? Would love to see them in action. Anyway hope for a good result after Alonso pulled it out the bag.

I wonder if the tires will last or if they have to convert it to a two stop.

Edit: Alonso is catching Albon, might have a chance of 9th with two stops.

And he did pass Albon.

He lost so much time ,should be close to Hulkemberg, but more than 10 sec. Is a lot...

Needed to two stop because the tyres were degrading too quickly, but the terrible pit stops cost Alonso 3 seconds on track.
