Oscar was unlucky on his second lap, but made a mistake on his first lap. But I'm sure he'll get past Charles pretty quick though I doubt his tyres will last long in dirty air.
Fully agreed!

Then it could be a great battle between the two McLaren Mercedes for the win !
Maybe. With these temps, following a car could be tough on tyres and engines. Lando has clean air and probably race pace.

This year the dirty air seems bad and the cars as sensitive as ever before. The golden years of this formula are gone and its definately time for a change.
The good years of this formula didn't last long at all, maybe half of 2022 and then progressively worse since.

Norris loves that track and so does our package in general. None of the corners that trouble us too much and with 50c track temps it was the kind of day made for Mclaren just as the last race wasn't, IMO.

Yes but like Mark said red bull have usually been stronger than the McLaren in the high speeds… until this weekend.

Like he says we’ll have to see in Silverstone

Lando was very happy with the car in quali: https://www.racefans.net/2025/06/28/nor ... -pole-lap/
Nonetheless Norris said he felt confident in the car and it had been more competitive than he expected at the Red Bull Ring.

McLaren have introduced various new parts over the last two races, some of which were intended to improve its performance but others aimed at helping Norris feel more confident in the car. He said they appear to be working as desired.
So, upgrades designed to make it easier for Lando to find the limit, not all to improve the best lap time, but to make it more accessible. I think Silverstone will be the real test of these of course, but it's still great to get such a good quali result.

I think this was also the first time ground effect cars get in the 1.03s around redbull ring.

They have but I think.the extreme conditions affected other teams who's tyres seemed to slide more.

We decimated RB through the mid and high speeds.

I suspect we'll have another Miami tomorrow.

Also, I dont know why people are making such a big deal of the gap. The important bit is the race tomorrow.

Max also had a 4 tenth gap on Lando last year, but all that advantage vanished on race day because McLaren was better on the tires.

I am just saying people may be counting their chicken before they hatch.

These suspension changes can be a double edge sword sometimes because these cars are incredibly sensitive mechanically. If they confirm this pace advantage tomorrow while maintaining their trait of being kind on the tires, then yeah, thats not great news for the rest of the teams.

I feel like we aren't ready to place today's success on the suspension just yet. It feels more likely that this track really suits Lando.

In any case, I predict more chickens than at KFC, tomorrow.

Hopefully I won't have egg on my face.

Lando has always been incredibly good at Austria. Combined with the perfect conditions for the car, and it was basically inevitable.

It will be a surprise if he doesn't win comfortably. Should be another 1 - 2 and a distant 3rd for Charles..

Its interesting that McLaren have managed to do in three months, that Red Bull haven't managed in over two years.

That's a testament to an amazing team. Very impressed with what Macca has accomplished. They were at the back not too long ago.
