Actually, any "own business" that gets successful enough to really be a business, not just a hobby that gets you half by generally involves employing other people and being able to take a small amount of time off (even if you're still half working while you're away).

Cycling, world superbikes and MotoGP will more than do it. Tonight's MotoGP race was just amazing if you thought today's F1 race was somewhat entertaining.

I can't think of another job where you don't get a holiday... In fact, I can't think of another job where you get only 2 weeks. So no, it's not an insult to every working person... Because they all get holidays.
You must not be American. *looks at location* Thought so.

I know of tons of studies on workweek hours vs productivity, but interestingly I don't think I've ever run across one on vacation time vs productivity, at least when workers are kept below weekly burnout levels. Lots of opinion pieces but no studies.

I have seen studies that say that if you've already hit burnout then vacation time or reduced hours is necessary to return to baseline productivity.

It's also clear that F1 teams work themselves beyond burnout levels, at least during race weekends - compounded by travel stress - no idea what factory life is like.

They do whine a bit much, strad, which is annoying, but the main point is their relative productivity with and without the break. Personally, I'd argue that they'd be better off to concentrate on weekly hours rather than vacations, but that's a lesson managers have never been able to learn.

A bonus for me is that i will actually be at Spa when F1 returns after the break. I can’t wait. :D
Anyone who is hitting F1 2011 hard, are you playing online? If so i will have a game with someone.
im going to spa too - very excited :) where are you going to be sitting?
I just have general admission tickets. Hopefully I will spend Friday finding a good place to watch the race from. Hopefully the weather won't be too poor.....

Actually, anyone dedicated enough to make an "own business" successful enough isn't one to ever really want time off, or even choose it over work.

Trust me. Been there, done that. We lot are a glutton for punishment

But "won't" take time off, is quite different from "can't" - and if you wanted to you generally can take time off in that situation

Given it's 5 weeks before the next stop - how does this work then? 3 weeks of work 2 of holiday, or 3 of holiday 2 of work? Last year with 4 weeks it was 2 weeks each way - but not sure about this year

Yes the factory is shut down for 2/3 weeks. McLaren generally pack up after the race, send the crates back home, then drop everything for the break, before taking the allowed work time (I still don't know if it's 2 or 3 weeks) in the weeks building to the grand prix.

Interesting that the road car side is also getting a shutdown though.

found it. To avoid other teams thinks that they will be using other resources to do F1 stuff.
The McLaren team principal, Martin Whitmarsh said: "We are shutting down midnight on Sunday after the Hungarian Grand Prix.

"As it happens we're also shutting down our automotive production at the same time, even though we don't need to do it.

"And we're not doing it to avoid any aspersions being cast by other teams. It is a separate company.

"I don't know what Ferrari are doing, whether they shut down their automotive side

Ferrari have mentioned that they still have another week of work; I guess would be 1-3-1 week(s) of work-break-work.
