I don't think that they have top three teams pace.
IMO the most important thing to compare is knowing that the fuel loads are similar. Regardless what tires they are running, we know for a fact that the car is relatively full when the race sim started and relatively empty when it finished it. So even if Vettel used the SS in his first stint, we know on a lap per lap basis that the fuel loads are give or take around the same. Yes, the tire compound will make a difference, but it won't when we compare stint number 2 and stint number 3 of similar length on similar fuel loads.motobaleno wrote: ↑08 Mar 2018, 17:34On the contrary I would say that using SS make you slower over the whole race sim.f1316 wrote: ↑08 Mar 2018, 17:25
I don't think the fact that the first stint was on SS is a factor that will make you 'faster' over a race distance - it's just a strategic comparison over what might be the better ways to run a race. SS should start faster in theory, but not if you're having to nurse them longer to make them last; if you pit earlier, and have to run longer on Meds, that will also slow you down vs. someone who's running a higher proportion of the race on softer tyres. So it's all a strategic choice about what ends up being quicker over the full distance.
So I think the 0.2 per lap is a valid comparison, just that these are two diverging strategies, one of which may be better than the other (also depending on car/tyre characteristics).
And i would not say that are different strategies at least not "race" strategies...you can't start on medium in the real race and you can't use always the same tyre
"I think there's three quick teams and there's no doubt that Red Bull are going to be people that we're going to be fighting with this year," Allison told Sky Sports News. "There's clearly no doubt about that.
How do you get RB ahead of Ferrari from that sim?GPR-A wrote: ↑08 Mar 2018, 17:50Based on Race Sim, here are my predictions.
1. Mercedes
2. Red Bull
3. Ferrari

I agree with you for what concerns fuel load: during the same lap they had very similar fuel load.Phil wrote: ↑08 Mar 2018, 17:49

Only because, RB started the first stint on Mediums and Ferrari on SuperSoft (2 step softer), but the pace is similar.f1316 wrote: ↑08 Mar 2018, 17:58How do you get RB ahead of Ferrari from that sim?GPR-A wrote: ↑08 Mar 2018, 17:50Based on Race Sim, here are my predictions.

What if the supersofts on Vettel were used to do a proper race sim?GPR-A wrote: ↑08 Mar 2018, 18:00Only because, RB started the first stint on Mediums and Ferrari on SuperSoft (2 step softer), but the pace is similar.f1316 wrote: ↑08 Mar 2018, 17:58How do you get RB ahead of Ferrari from that sim?GPR-A wrote: ↑08 Mar 2018, 17:50Based on Race Sim, here are my predictions.

that's implies just the opposite:
Sure, I agree that all three are quite similar.GPR-A wrote: ↑08 Mar 2018, 18:00Only because, RB started the first stint on Mediums and Ferrari on SuperSoft (2 step softer), but the pace is similar.f1316 wrote: ↑08 Mar 2018, 17:58How do you get RB ahead of Ferrari from that sim?GPR-A wrote: ↑08 Mar 2018, 17:50Based on Race Sim, here are my predictions.
