It's clear that McLaren has instructed everyone to downplay all results. Why they haven't done that earlier? No clue at all, because that's where most of the hate for McLaren come from. Their big mouth.

It was that Idiotic Frenchman Boullier... When the car was decent in 2017 he took credit for it. In 2018, when car was terrible, he claimed "I can only race what I'm given"... Thank goodness he's gone...

I've read some articles about James Key and many think that he is the next Andrian Newey. Combine that with the returned Peter Prodrommou and Pat Fry along with Andrea Stella from Ferrari and the dream team that created the fantastic MP4-13 of 1998 is gonna create another masterpiece in the next 2 years I would say. Fingers crossed.

Have we got the comparative times for the C3 compound from today? (And C2 if available)

I was quite excited by a C3 lap that Lando did that sat very competitively in the pecking order but just a few mins later everyone started setting lap records on softer rubber so it all kinda got lost in the hype.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QIDTLD1p0dQ

Autosport completely glossed over that lap, and even had the nerve to put Haas at the front of the midfield for managing a slower lap time on the C4s! They just can't shake that grudge, huh? #-o
Haas impressed with 1:17:8 on C4, while Sainz did a 1:17:1 on C4 on Wednesday. Forgot about that I guess.

It's funny, they are starting to warm up to McLaren, Edd Straw said the car is decent.
There's been a lot of negativity towards McLaren during these tests. But for me, the one that takes the cake, (others might see it differently) was when Sky described Lando's off into the gravel as a crash! English isn't my mother tongue, but that seemed like a ridiculous exaggeration.
Q: (Stefano Mancini – La Stampa) Kimi, will you help Vettel to win his championship this year?
Kimi Raikkonen: I can only drive one car, obviously.

Sainz’s lap time is very encouraging especially as he is on the C3 tyres

To C5, in theory it should give 1.2s in reality... probably 0.9 faster

Pirelli's tyre gap estimate:

C1 to C2: 0.8-1.0 seconds
C2 to C3: 0.7 seconds
C3 to C4: 0.6 seconds
C4 to C5: 0.6 seconds

Found this, it's a good time Sainz has set.

It seems to me that McLaren is about 1s behind fastest car... they seem capable of regular Q3. What do you guys think?

Yeah probably 1.16.5-6 on C5. Likely 1 - 1.2s behind Ferrari at full tilt. With a complete redesign we have an excellent baseline car. Positive start to the year. Now they need to outdevelop the midfield

If they can do a 17:1xx on this compound they are golden. We'll see today, Merc and Ferrari will do some quick laps, don't know about RB, if the car is 100% after yesterday.

It's just how media works, Ferrari and Mercedes are what needs to grab headlines atm, so BOOM and BLITZ is what does the job for them right now. However in case of McLaren, it is more than just how media works...

Probably beacuse McLaren is giving it everything and the press know/think the Merc/Ferrari can go much faster?
