Norris showed great wet driving skills while on F2 at Paul Ricard in 2018, but wasn’t as strong in Hockenheim last year

He started at the back and had engine failure before the race got interesting.
Q: (Stefano Mancini – La Stampa) Kimi, will you help Vettel to win his championship this year?
Kimi Raikkonen: I can only drive one car, obviously.

Norris complaining about chest pain when braking and aparently it bothers him quite alot, since he was forced to drive less in FP sessions. This might be a concern.

And he was out of breath after the first race as well.
I read it was upper backpains, not chest. He's certainly not 100% for some reason and has to limit his time in the car. I wonder if it's the compression at turn 10?
“It’s just something in my chest or something,” he explained. “I hit the brakes and then the compression, it spikes up massively so I’m just afraid to brake anywhere, which is not ideal around here.

After a Friday practice session which saw him given a three-place grid penalty for overtaking under cautionary yellow flags, Norris revealed he has been suffering with back pain for a while.

... A1 Ring ...
There's no such thing anymore. Also A1 is just a telecommunications company and previously sponsored the track.
If it's about not wanting to call it Red Bull Ring (because they are "evil" or whatever) at least call it Spielberg. That's where the track is located.
I don't really care much. I know it as A1 Ring from the 90s and 2000s.

I bet he has been mountain biking in those hills.

Wow. This actually sounds somewhat chronic...not the result of some temporary workout injury or something. Hope it doesnt cut short his promising career :(

That would make a lot of sense... My only question would be in regards to practice of a qualifying run on Mediums, knowing that Qualy most probably will be wet (if there is one)... Are they thinking that we could have Qualy on Sunday morning?

In regards to Norris’ penalty, he did slowed down for the yellow flags, but given that he was on a hot lap and the other cars on out laps and therefore considerably slower, slowing down for yellows wasn’t enough not to pass them after the turn... Very unlucky

That's a good point. It's possible I as reading too much into it, just found it strange for him to come out so late on mediums for a 1 lap run. Perhaps it was just evaluating stuff to gather data.

Masi did say that they can have qualy on Sunday morning if tomorrow is unsuccesful. This seems like the preferred option if qualy on Saturday is cancelled.

After Norris said the pain "was in his chest or something", a Mclaren spokesperson ...

"...told "The Race" that Norris’ issue was in his upper back, and that the decision to limit his running as a precaution would have minimal impact on the weekend given the level of circuit familiarity in the second week of the Red Bull Ring’s paired races."

I just remembered that in the Unboxed video, Lando repeatedly complains that Zak hugged him too hard and is in visible pain. I wonder if that was the reason or just exacerbated an existing condition.

He did say it felt like his rib broke or something. Pretty sure he was kidding, but who knows. My guess is that this is just some of the physical rust kicking in after not racing for such a long time.

Can happen easily, I've broken ribs hugging someone before, just need to be in the wrong spot.

You can train a lot, but heavy braking and G forces in a stiff carbon seat are something different. A small inflammation of a tendon in your back or rib cage can seriously hurt. And with the compact calendar we can see this more with drivers. A small injection can relieve pain but the schedule won’t give much room to heal (stuff like that in the body takes weeks, not days)

This is off topic but Fernando Alonso will be back next year with Renault. I'm not sure how many years he will continue to race but would you give him another chance in Mclaren now that we are reaching the top in the next two years?

Personally I would have given him another chance to prove himself with a championship winning car like Mclaren will be in the next two years.

I would say McLaren disagree as I’m sure there would have been an option to bring him back... seeing as he will be driving the indie 500 for them later this year

Personally I’m not looking forward to McLaren going head 2 head with him in a Renault next year. He’s an awesome racer but I’m sure Ric & Lando will rise to the occasion

As for McLaren fight for the championship in the next 2 year, I have my fingers crossed but that’s a really tall order
