Yes exactly. The nasty name/slur he aimed at Lance was pretty awful and his totally unrepentant nature afterward makes a mockery of ‘we race as one’. I’m surprised a lot more hasn’t been made of it actually.

I don’t really want to write the actual word on here but there are two meanings for it in the given context. One of which is a derogatory name for someone with Down’s syndrome and the other is implying his eyesight is bad using a racial epithet.

I am a non native English speaker. Is this considered non acceptable term in English? I suspect you are talking about the word retard.

Here we would never refer to a person with Down syndrome as a retard, it would be considered extremely offensive. On the other hand calling someone a retard is perfectly acceptable to indicate someone has done something very stupid. The word has moved beyond it original association to mean something else.

A bit like the word crazy, you cannot call anyone with a mental challenge crazy, but you can call everyone else, and no one with a mental challenge would feel offended.

Personally I am not big into insulting or cursing, I think it is an expression of poor self control, so I doubt that I would actually use the word. Certainly after this conversation.

But I would be interested to know, it is very easy to make these kind of mistakes using literal translations, and in these times with metoo and BLM you are expected to know all the nuances of the words you use. Which can be quite challenging, when you are not brought up with them.

No, not those words. It’s a slightly shortened word you would use to describe someone who comes from Mongolia, which also is used as a derogatory term for someone with down’s and/or a racial slur to indicate a person can’t see very well because of the shape of their eyes.

This is so wide of the mark, you need to take some time and seriously think about it. Again, I know people personally, who are afflicted, who take a great deal of offence to what you are describing as acceptable use. Who are you to say how people with mental health issues would feel?

I think Bottas is hopeless even if he gets ahead at the start, given how critical tire management might be. Similar outcome to Nurburgring.

WTF is going on with the time? I thought the race was now. The F1 site shows the race has started, but F1TV is showing the pre-race show, so is Sky F1.

Are you not an hour early? The race will start at 11:10pm (Brisbane, Australia time) which I get is very abstract haha. But... this is on schedule is it not? I checked early this morning on the app and it’s lined up with the start time as normal

We went from summer to winter time last night here in Europe. Some sites/apps might not have been automatically adjusted. At 03:00 the clock was set back an hour to 02:00.

The time changed last night for me and i am gmt+2 now instead of gmt+3. I was checking the F1 official site at 15:00 local time for me and it said 10 minutes to race start, so i am confused. I thought it would be the same time as the Eiffel GP.

Can be very confusing especially when the clocks don’t change everywhere at the same time or at all. But at least it’s an hour later than a lot of you thought rather than you’ve missed most of the race!

It is very confusing indeed. I thought, the clocks go back 1 hour, so the race would be 1 hour earlier for me also. Official site still shows the race at 15.10 local time for me lol. Seems it was the wrong time displayed before the time change and it stayed the same. I even thought the race would be 14.10 for me so i was checking even earlier!

It should start at the same time as the Eifel GP did for you but looking at the GMT it's an hour later.

I dont know how to upload a snapshot from the F1 site. It shows Portimao track time at 13:45 now. Go figure.
