Merc always made a waste of their strategy these days. Same as Singapore. Equality isn't always efficient

One thing to consider is that the pits could be mayhem at the stops if they all pit on the max lap.

Hülkenberg started from 12th instead of 14th. Lol
And get only 10s penalty (5s per place). Again too weak penalty.

The fact that Hamilton was on softs and likely to get a rocket start sounds worthy of a team discussion imo.
The team absolutely REFUSE to give Lewis first driver status.

Could've been racing winning pace. Max doesn't seem to be that quick this weekend in race trim

It’s not giving either driver #1 status it’s just saying that from a team point of view some co-ordination on the start may be sensible…

Anyway, Sunday afternoon drive for Max.

Verstappen is managing the left front. He’s been setting fastest laps at a canter. I don’t see how he’s not quick.

Didn't seem like he needed to stop yet were it not enforced. Needless rule.

Not to mention on the grippier side the the track: There is no way they did not discuss this, so Russel's radio of "only looking ahead" is questionable.

The problem started once GR was boxed in. LH had to evade GR's escape attempt from the box or they would have crashed even before T1. I suspect LH decided to immediately return the favour, expecting GR to yield. This was obviously a bad assumption and at that point it's pot luck as to who comes off how.

So as a racing incident I would say they are both to blame, with LH perhaps more responsible for not anticipating GR not yielding. But from the team perspective I would be disappointed in GR precipitating the situation by going aggressive against LH's predictable fast start instead of playing the long game.
